Sigma-Aldrich CEO Passes Away

Sigma-Aldrich announced its chairman, president and CEO Jai P. Nagarkatti died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, in St. Louis. He was 63.

In light of this, Sigma-Aldrich has elected Rakesh Sachdev as president and CEO. Sachdev most recently served as CFO, CAO and senior vice president of international business for the company, and he also was elected to the Sigma-Aldrich board of directors. Additionally, Barrett Toan was named the company’s chairman.

Sigma-Aldrich held a conference call to discuss these matters on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at 10 AM Central (11 AM Eastern).

Speaking on behalf of the board and staff of Sigma-Aldrich, Toan, the company’s presiding director, said, "The entire Sigma-Aldrich global organization mourns the loss of Jai and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Susan and his daughter Shanti. Our deepest sympathies go out to them. He was respected by the company's 7,700 employees and will be missed."
