Monell’s Fundraiser

The Monell Chemical Senses Center has announced that it surpassed its goal of $10.9 million in its first ever capital campaign. The “Science of the Senses” campaign raised $11.2 million. This total includes $3.6 million from the National Institutes of Health, $1 million from the Ambrose Monell Foundation, $600,000 from The Kresge Foundation, and $4.2 million from international leaders in the corporate food, flavor and fragrance industries. The campaign raised funds to create 20,000 sq ft of new laboratories, devoted to the integration of molecular biology and human sensory studies, as well as to enable Monell to recruit new principal scientific investigators. As part of this expansion, Monell has already purchased and renovated 10,000 sq ft of an adjacent four-story building as state-of-the-art laboratory space. The next phase of the expansion, a second 10,000 sq ft laboratory expansion, is expected to open in Fall 2007.
