Cargill (Minneapolis) is responding to new developments in U.S. regulation and policy—including the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, voluntary front-of-package label initiatives and federal menu labeling requirements—by offering new healthy food and beverage ingredient options. Of the efforts, Pat Bowe, Cargill corporate vice president, said, "Cargill has, and continues to develop, the ingredients and product formulation capabilities required to help our customers overcome the technical challenges associated with making healthier products taste better."
Among these options are the company’s Truvia natural sweetener and Zerose erythritol products; the CitriTex GSG 71 stabilizer blend, which can help replace oil in baked goods; the SaltWise sodium reduction system, which helps maintain salty flavor in foods and beverages while reducing sodium; Premier potassium chloride and Premier light salt; Alberger brand flake salt; Clear Valley omega-3 oil and Clear Valley omega-3 shortening; and meat and poultry products such as Honeysuckle White turkey breast and Harvest Provisions beef pot roast, which were developed and are commercialized as "low fat" or "reduced sodium" products.
Additionally, the company is also offering products that assist in increasing fiber and whole grain intake. These products include CoroWise plant sterols, used to reduce cholesterol; Oliggo-Fiber inulin, a prebiotic fiber; Barliv barley betafiber; ActiStar RT starch, for fiber; GrainWise wheat aleurone; WheatSelect white spring whole wheat flour; MaizeWise whole grain corn products; Sterling Silver pork tenderloin and the company’s certified ground beef 96/4; and the Sunny Fresh brand, which features no-fat and cholesterol-free egg products.
