FMA Addresses Health Concerns of Essential Oils

The Fragrance Materials Association of the United States (FMA) has released this letter addressing the alleged link between gynecomastia and lavender and tee tree oils.

There have been numerous media reports concerning a study published today in the New England Journal of Medicine linking prepubertal gynecomastia to lavender and tea tree oils. Click here to view the FMA response highlighting the fact that a number of questions are raised by this report, overall the data presented are weak, and further research is required before any conclusive connection could be identified between these essential oils and gynecomastia.

This statement is provided for your background and for you to provide in response to customer inquiries. As always, if you receive any media questions concerning this study you should feel free to refer them to the FMA office. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

John Cox
