Coumarin (1,2-benzopyrone, cis-o-coumarinic acid lactone) is a naturally occurring constituent of many plants and essential oils, including Tonka beans (Diepteryx odorata), sweet clover (Melilotus alba), sweet woodruff (Asperula odorata), galium (Galium odoratum) and lavender (Lavandula).
