Proposition 37 Genetic Food Label Initiative Rejected

Proposition 37—a California ballot initiative that would require the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods—was rejected this week, although proponents said this isn't the end of their campaign.

After the measure lost at the polls with 54% no and 46% yes, the grassroots Yes on 37 Blog supporting the movement posted a statement: "Yesterday, we showed that there is a food movement in the United States, and it is strong, vibrant and too powerful to stop."

Proponents of Proposition 37 had criticized certain corporations of allegedly spending about a million dollars a day on a campaign to block the group's efforts and attributed this to the results at the polls.
