General Mills Petitions FDA

General Mills, Inc. filed a food additive petition with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requesting that the food additive regulations be amended to provide for the safe use of ultraviolet radiation for the reduction of pathogens and other microorganisms in aqueous sugar solutions and potable water intended for use in food production. The FDA has determined that, under 21 CFR 25.32(j), this action is of a type that does not individually or cumulatively have a significant effect on the human environment. Therefore, neither an environmental assessment nor an environmental impact statement is required. (Source: FEMA)
