FMA Meeting Report

This year’s Fragrance Materials Association (FMA) Annual Meeting was held January 17 at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe, Teaneck, NJ. For the first time, the event featured a Product Showcase where member companies could exhibit their products. Some of the participating companies included Perfumer & Flavorist magazine, Polarome, Vigon, Mane, Firmenich, Robertet, Symrise, Charkit and Frutarom.

This was followed by a business session in which John Cox discussed hot topics affecting FMA members including respiratory safety, Cropwatch & IFRA, REACH, California regulations, and actions by the retail giant Wal-Mart. FMA president, Sean Traynor, announced the new FMA officers, including new FMA president William Troy (Firmenich, Inc.). Traynor was presented with a certificate of recognition for his remarkable contributions during his term as president.

The business session was followed by a luncheon featuring industry expert Ann Gottlieb as the keynote speaker. Gottlieb led an informal Q&A session providing FMA members and guests insight into her views on topics such as industry mergers and acquisitions, the growing impact of ethnic markets and the cost of a fine fragrance launch.

The next FMA event, the Annual Spring Dinner, is scheduled for April 25 (details TBA). For more information contact FMA; tel: 1-202-293-5800; fax: 1-202-463-8998; e-mail: [email protected]; www.fmafragrance.org.
