Preview: WFFC China 360, the Citrus Factor

Posted: October 13, 2008

Recent supply issues in the flavor and fragrance industry have highlighted the growing importance of China to the industry. On November 13 at the Saddle Brook Marriott in Saddle Brook, NJ, Women in Flavor and Fragrance Commerce will present a seminar on this growing power.

Among the speakers will be Hugo Bovill and Zhian Liang of Treatt who provide here a preview of their topic:

"Treatt's purchasing team retraced its steps of four years ago to explore China's rapidly developing citrus processing industry, a journey which took them several thousand miles across a number of provinces in China. The talk will cover the past, present and future of Chinese citrus. China is already a major citrus growing origin but rapid expansion is expected in the next few years to satisfy fresh fruit demand and the increasing processing capacity available. China’s role in the F&F industry has seen a rapid rise in the past decade with consumption within China increasing appreciably on an annual basis. To support this growing economic expansion and increasing demand for premium products, China has firm plans to become a significant force in the processing of citrus fruit primarily for juice extraction but citrus essential oil production will certainly increase alongside this growth."
