Standards and Specifications Essential Oil Association of the U.S.A., Inc
In 1946 the Scientific Committee began the compilation of a set of monographs embodying the EOA standards for essential oils, aromatic chemicals and isolates, and related flavor and perfume materials. Approximately 300 of these have now been completed. They have been prepared by the scientific representative of the member companies, based on the analyticaI data and experience of their laboratories. They are intended to define realistically standard good quality material currently avaiIable commercially, and should provide fair standards for the evaluation of these materials in commercial transactions.

New Constituents in Olibanum Resinoid and Essential Oil
Olibanum, or frankincense, a well appreciated perfume raw material, is a gum-resin produced by wild small trees growing in Arabia and Somaliland. This gum-resin results either from natural exudation or from unnatural incisions made in the bark of the tree. The gums from Arabia and Somalihind converge to Aden, the main trade place for olibanum; these gums usually result from two species of the genus Boswellia (fam. Burseraceae): Boswellia carterii Bird, (Arabia and Somaliland) and Boswellia frereana Bird. (Somaliland).

Essential Oils and Microwave Extracts of Cultivated Plants
We have used these two methods to treat different cultivated plants: five Umbelliferae, one Compositae and seven Labiatae. There is a double purpose for this approach. First, we want to determine the advantages and disadvantages of this technique in terms of research. Secondly, we intend to make appropriate comparisons between microwave extracts and essential oils coming from the aerial part of these plants.
