Instrumentation. We would like to point out that the human eye and nose are still the best pattern recognizes. A computer cannot replace a perfumer; however, a computer is much more efficient in processing huge amounts of data and performing repetitious calculations. Often fascinating new chemicals can be produced directly by isolation from essential oils, or by further chemical processing of these isolates. Despite legislative difficulties, this work should be continued apace. Our growth and future lies here.

Malodor Formation in Alcoholic Perfumes Containing Vetiveryl Acetate and Vetiver Oil

Although hypothetical, the proposed schemes explain reasonably well how butene isomers and 1,1-diethoxyethane can arise from vetivmyl acetate or vetiver oil autoxidation in alcoholic perfumes. Unsaturated perfume ingredients other than vetiveryl acetate or vetiver oil could possibly exhibit a similar behavior.
