As we look ahead to 2025, the P&F+ team looked at our Google Analytics to determine the top articles of the past year. Below are the top five flavor industry articles of 2024.
1. Kerry Group Reports 2024 Half-Year Sales
Edmond Scanlon, chief executive officer shared, “We are pleased to report a good performance across the first half of the year. Taste & Nutrition delivered good volume growth ahead of our end markets, with strong profit growth and margin expansion across the business, contributing to our earnings per share growth of 9.1% in the period."
2. Symrise Recognized with "A" Grade in 2023 Supplier Engagement Rating
Symrise was recognized by the non-profit organization CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) with a top A grade in the Supplier Engagement Rating (SER) for 2023. According to a release, Symrise has drawn up a Code of Conduct governing responsible sourcing that applies to all its suppliers. As a next step, the company aims to increase the number of suppliers that meet these strict requirements.
3. Flavorists Weigh in on How the Ozempic Trend Might Influence Innovation
Ozempic, a semaglutide injection designed for adults with type 2 diabetes, has become an internet sensation due to celebrities utilizing it as a weight loss drug. Research by The Capitol Groupa shows a decline in food consumption by Ozempic users. The research article states, "The media frenzy around weight loss drugs reached a fever pitch when Walmart’s U.S. chief executive officer said that people on glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) weight loss drugs are buying less food compared to the general population."
What happens if this becomes a mass movement? What would food designed for an Ozempic world look like and what is the implication for flavor? 4. Independent Flavorist Tony Moore Launches Collaborative Database of Flavor & Fragrance Materials
Moore shares, "Along with my systems specialist partner, Paul Smiley, I’ve launched a free-to-use collaborative database of flavor and fragrance materials information at FlavScents.com. This compendium is inspired by The Good Scents Company and an homage to the legacy of its creator, Bill Luebke. It currently contains searchable information for over 30,000 materials and includes features where users can contribute and collaborate. There is also a material supplier subscription that is intended to generate income to keep the site current, growing and sustainable."
5. 10 Gen Z Flavor Trends
More than 1 in 4 Gen Z respondents claim to have chosen more indulgent flavors in desserts, sweet bakery and confectionery categories over the past 12 months, according to Innova Market Insights. The top social media platforms for flavor inspiration among this generation are YouTube (56%), Instagram (47%) and TikTok (43%).
