Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) has appointed new staff members.
Brian Wall (human health scientist, genotoxicity) manages the genotoxicity test program. Wall was most recently a post-doctoral associate in the department of chemical biology, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers University, where he was responsible for the design and management of several research projects, and wrote and reviewed grant proposals, manuscript submissions and protocols.
Wall worked on several projects leading to proof-of-concept studies in human subjects having late-stage cancer metastases. He received an award for Scientific Excellence in 2009 from the New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research for his work in identifying novel mechanisms of carcinogenesis in human cancers. Wall has had 17 papers published in peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters on recent advances in cancer therapy published. He is a member of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) and an Active Member of the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR).
Jie Shen (computational chemist, computational toxicology program) identifies and generates data to support Human Health and Environmental Science safety assessments for fragrance materials using in silico resources and modeling.
Shen comes to RIFM from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Center for Toxicological Research where he was an ORISE Fellow and coordinated the development of an Estrogenic Activity Database (EASDB). Shen holds patents and software copyrights for two applications, “Applications of Phenyl Sulphoic Acid Ester Derivatives in Selectively Modulation on Estrogen Receptors” and “ADMET simulator v1.0.” He has 22 publications and two book chapters published and has presented at conferences internationally. He is also a member of the Society of Toxicology.
Autray Lovell Humphrey (human health research assistant) supports RIFM’s human health scientists in developing safety assessments and monitoring toxicological studies. Humphrey was a laboratory technician at Bioqual in Rockville, Maryland where he ensured that in vivo studies complied with appropriate standard operating procedures, good laboratory practices (GLP) and regulatory agency guidelines. Humphrey is also a 92A Logistics Specialist with the 978th Quartermaster Army Reserve Unit, Annapolis, Maryland and a member of American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
Patricia Stewart (director, finance and office administration) manages RIFM’s operating and scientific testing budgets. Stewart comes to RIFM after acting as treasurer for the Washingtonville Central School District, Washingtonville, New York, managing an $83 million budget. She was previously a private controller, managing 450 million dollars in client assets. For 12 years, she specialized in audit of nonprofit organizations and investment firms. She is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs (AlCPA).
