Flavor Producers, LLC. is currently looking for a Flavor Chemist to join its team. 

The Flavor Chemist is primarily responsible for developing initiatives for flavor business opportunities for Flavor Producers by driving the development, application, and manufacture of flavors in support of Flavor Producers business growth objectives. Expertise in the creation of a broad spectrum of flavors (including but not limited to flavor duplications/matching, new creations and modifications).

This person will play a key role in development of flavor business for Flavor Producers and will support the R&D team. They will need to be fast and able to think on their feet with a keen sense of commercial viability, organization skill and can-do attitude. They will be a key link between supporting existing business and developing future growth.

This position will ensure timely and accurate support to the R&D Group needs along with providing necessary detailed information to allow for meeting the customer's needs daily. Due to the high volume of requests and FP's customer centric culture this position requires urgency, flexibility, and responsiveness.

The Flavor Chemist will interact with Customers, Applications, Marketing, Sales Account Executives, Research and Innovation, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Product Safety & Quality, Sensory, and Manufacturing, as well as other Business Unit Groups, to achieve FP’s Business Goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Project management and processing for FP sales projects
  • Formulating appropriate flavors and revisions
  • Selecting appropriate existing profiles and standardizing formulas for lab compounding
  • Assigning projects to appropriate flavorists, applications techs, isolate engineers or emulsion engineers.
  • Communicating with the sales person concerning feasibility, timing and priority
  • Communicating with R&D personnel concerning feasibility, timing and priority
  •  Ideation of novel and flavor profiles and applications presentations
  • Creation, formulation, revision and matching of finished flavors, flavor keys and flavor ingredients
  • Meeting and working with customers during customer visits and occasional technical sales calls
  • Organoleptic analysis, opinion and direction for production quality control
  • Paneling and sensory evaluation of flavors for matching
  • Sensory evaluation of and direction for new products for possible commercialization
  • Independently work multiple projects of creative development, analysis and matching.
  • Educate and share knowledge with Junior Flavorists
  • Ability to communicate clearly with Sales and Customers
  • Intimately know flavor regulations
  • Formulate for specific regulations and label claims
  • Formulate for pricing
  • Effectively manage project timelines and expectations

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 7 years’ experience

Fully Certified Flavorist: Required

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; internet software; manufacturing software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.

Other Skills and Abilities

An understanding of GC-MS and HPLC fundamentals from a theory of operation perspective. An advance sense of taste and smell and ability to describe taste/smell in a detailed manner.

Handling toxic/caustic chemicals in testing raw materials. PPE is provided in the form of lab coats, safety glasses, gloves, and respirators.
