Gustavo Puente, senior vice president of procurement at Kalsec, has been named to the Earth University board of directors.

Puente was introduced to Kalsec through an internship he took during his time as a student at Earth University, which is located in Costa Rica. He graduated with a B.S. in agricultural sciences and later received a masters in agricultural economics with an emphasis in agribusiness from Michigan State University. Joining Kalsec’s procurement function in 2005, Puente took on global sourcing and supply chain responsibilities at manager and director levels. He was promoted to vice president of procurement in 2013 and oversees Kalsec’s global procurement strategy. Puente also became an officer in the Kalsec organization.

Throughout his career, Puente, along with his team, has led efforts to create and transform Kalsec’s supply chain in countries like the United States, Peru, China, India, Brazil and Turkey. These projects have resulted in positive impacts all the way down to the communities where raw materials are grown.

Passionate about agricultural businesses, Puente believes agriculture was key to prosperity for Latin American economies. As a board member Puente will help oversee the mission and purpose of Earth University.
