Report: Firmenich Seeks Emirati Perfumer

Firmenich is searching for its first modern Emirati professional perfumer who can reflect the region's fragrance sensibility, according to a recent report.

The Geneva-based flavor and fragrance company is reportedly thinking of specifically recruiting a perfumer from one of the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries: an Emirati perfumer, a Saudi perfumer or an Omani perfumer.

"We want someone with the culture of oils and fragrances who we could train to follow the practices of perfumers today," Louis Lecoeur, Firmenich's general manager, told The National

The report also indicated that Firmenich has started visiting university science departments in search of the most suitable candidate. The chosen perfumer will have to complete a 10-year training process and will spend time learning from other perfumers at Firmenich's headquarters in Switzerland and in other countries such as the United States and Japan.

In a move to build a presence in the UAE region, Firmenich opened an affiliate, located in Dubai Biotechnology & Research Park (DuBiotech) in February 2010.
