Symrise celebrated the grand opening of its creative center in Pudong, Shanghai.

The center is an investment of around €8 million and will house experienced perfumers developing nearly 9,000 fragrances, per year, for the Chinese market. There will also be space for creation and market research, a fragrance creation and compounding area with double working space, an application laboratory for customer samples, hair and home care test rooms and consumer insights facilities.

“With our new Creative Center in Shanghai, we have created a cutting-edge environment for our fragrance creation. It should be a clear sign to both our Chinese customers and our employees there of our intention and commitment to further drive forward our growth in China,” said Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, Ph.D., CEO of Symrise AG.

Additionally, the company’s production facility for fragrance and flavors in Nantong has celebrated the completion of its first construction phase. Phase I saw a €50 million investment, out of a planned total €83 million.

Symrise has been active in China since 1982. “Our bold and forward-looking decision to go to China at that time has paid off. Today, we generate about a quarter of our sales in the Asia-Pacific region, where China plays an important role. We want to strengthen our position there in the long term,” said Bertram.
