SC Johnson has announced that it is the first major consumer packaged goods company that publicly discloses its fragrance ingredients down to .01 percent of its formula.

Starting in 2009, SC Johnson began its transparency initiative with WhatsInsideSCJohnson.com ingredient website, which provided a comprehensive list of fragrance ingredients used in its products. Then in 2015, SC Johnson added to the website product-specific fragrance disclosures and then expanded its program to Europe in 2016 and Asia in 2017.  Also, in 2017, the company added information about the presence of 368 skin allergens that may occur in its products.

“SC Johnson firmly believes that consumers deserve to know what’s in the products they use. We began disclosing fragrance ingredients by product in 2015 and have been disclosing hundreds of these ingredients down to .01% for more than a year,” said Kelly M. Semrau, senior VP, global corporate affairs, communication and sustainability. “Sharing more about product ingredients is good for families and important for the industry as a whole. We are pleased to see that our industry peers are following our lead and taking steps toward greater transparency.”
