Stevia ingredients producer and marketer PureCircle Ltd. has announced the discovery and development of new food ingredient Rebaudioside X, according to RNS, the company news service from the London Stock Exchange.
In conjunction with The Coca-Cola Company, PureCircle is seeking global intellectual property coverage for the ingredient. A detailed safety evaluation has now been conducted by an independent expert panel on high purity Rebaudioside X and has received self-affirmed GRAS status.
PureCircle has now elected to formally submit its GRAS notification to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the agency's additional safety review. These developments follow an earlier announcement on Sept. 28, 2012, of a joint development agreement with The Coca-Cola Company which allows for the continued joint investigation and development of a stevia sweetener product as a commercially viable food ingredient.
