Berjé Gets Excellent Rating from SQF for Food Safety Modernization Act

Berjé Inc. has achieved Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification, earning the highest level of certification possible within the SQF Program, which is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

Level 3 is the highest level of certification that can be achieved by the SQF program, and indicates a comprehensive implementation of food safety and quality management systems development. Berjé scored 98% and was rated “Excellent” within this rigorous testing category, reflecting food safety, quality materials management and superior process control.

“Achieving the highest level of certification on our first third-party audit in our new headquarters facility demonstrates Berjé’s commitment to providing our customers with safe, secure, quality products and ensures that we continually meet and exceed the quality standards set in place by the SQF Institute,” said Kim Bleimann, Berjé's chairman and CEO. “We are very proud of this accomplishment and attribute it to the hard work and dedication of our production team as well as our entire staff who everyday prove their commitment to both Berjé and our customers. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the quality of our processes. Passing this rigorous criteria and obtaining SQF certification validates our corporate approach to quality assurance at every level, for our products, customers and employees.”

Third-party audits for quality and safety are required under The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), which focuses on several aspects of food safety and steadily aims to increase consumer awareness and attention on safe foods. As a result, suppliers now need proof that robust safety plans and programs are in place at their factories. SQF certification provides validation, and its certification program is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative.
