According to a new report issued by Cameron & Stuart Inc., 25-30% of India's cornmint crop has been lost to flooding, setting off a chain reaction of events that will affect Chinese menthol delivery in 2008. With an anticipated drop of 15-20% in available Indian cornmint oil, menthol and dementholized oil producers in the country will face higher prices. In addition, the amount of cornmint oil for purchase by Chinese interests will be significantly depleted. The result, says the report, could be a 40-50% drop in Chinese menthol exports in 2008 versus 2006 and 2007.
