At the close of the first full day of the 2012 World Perfumery Congress, BASF (Florham Park, New Jersey) and Global Essence (Freehold, New Jersey) signed a distribution agreement in which Global Essence will service mid-market menthol customers in North America. Agreement terms were not disclosed.
The move comes as BASF wraps up the construction of its menthol site in Ludwigshafen, Germany, which was previously announced.
Of the agreement, Andrea Wiese, North American sales manager of BASF's aroma chemicals business unit, said, "This agreement is in line with our focus on L-menthol, the new addition to BASF's citral value chain."
Katrina Neale, president of Global Essence, added, " We are delighted to be forming this strategic alliance ... as this complements and enhances our portfolio of mint and mint-related products, a core focus within our flavor and fragrance palette."
