Synergy Flavors announced its acquisition of Chicago-area flavor company Sethness Greenleaf. Though its recent acquisition activity, Synergy, which also recently purchased Hamilton, Ohio-based natural essence and extract manufacturer Sensus, LLC, will expand its reach in key markets, including in the US.
"This acquisition provides additional scale to Synergy in important beverage, dairy and bakery markets,” commented Roderick W. Sowders, president and CEO of Synergy Flavors. "Sethness Greenleaf has an excellent reputation in the marketplace, which has been built over 120 years, and we are excited to have them as a part of Synergy. Additionally, we feel that Synergy’s broader product offerings will bring additional value to Sethness Greenleaf’s strong customer base.”
"I have been very proud to have been affiliated with Sethness Greenleaf for over 40 years,” comments Patrick Kearney, former owner and president of Sethness Greenleaf, who will leave the company with this transaction. “When I decided it was time for me to pursue other interests, I wanted to find a buyer for this business that would continue to support the company’s growth in the future, and allow it to remain in the Chicago area. I am confident I have found the best fit for the company and our employees in Synergy.”
Additionally, in its acquisition of Sensus, Synergy gained assets that can help it gain a greater foothold in market segments including coffee and tea, as well as in natural essences. "This acquisition offers significant benefits to our customers by providing direct access to natural essences and extracts that greatly enhance our capability to serve the growing demand for natural flavorings, “Sowders said of the Sensus deal. "In addition to innovative technologies, I believe Sensus’ access to the food service sector will open new commercial possibilities for Synergy’s flavor portfolio. Sensus’ customers will also benefit from the additional flavor expertise and global reach of the Synergy organization.”
Business operations for Sensus are staying in Hamilton, Ohio, and Daniel Wampler, founder of Sensus and now a division president with Synergy, noted, "I’ve been impressed by the significant overlaps we have found between Sensus’ process technologies and Synergy’s technical platforms. Additionally, I look forward to expanding the Sensus technologies to a broader range of products and geographies.”
