Process Lab Technologist 1 at Flavor Producers

Description:

The Process Lab Technologist will utilize various technologies to support product development, through all stages (concept, bench-top, sensory testing, pilot production) and follow established procedures. He or she will assist production upscales and work closely with QC to provide scalable, process specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assembling, operating, disassembling and cleaning distillation and extraction equipment.
  • Observing and troubleshooting processes and reporting issues to Lab Manager.
  • Understanding of general chemistry related to processes.
  • Sourcing of raw materials for new product development.
  • Keeping track of and rotating stock sample product.
  • Navigation of web-based formula book software.
  • Assist in formulation of new products, conduct product testing, and sensory evaluations.
  • Provide technical information and support to customers as required.
  • Observe all Lab protocols and Safety Regulations consistently.
  • Maintain a clean lab and organize R&D samples.
  • Records and reports data to meet project objectives
  • Willingness to learn proper procedures for maintenance and best practices for
  • operating processing lab equipment.
  • Performs and assists all R&D activities, compounding, sample preparation, and data entry with minimal supervision as assigned to meet project deadlines.
  • May perform other general lab duties as required.

Education and/or Experience

Language Skills

Junior Flavor Chemist at Flavor Producers

The Junior Flavor Chemist is primarily responsible for building technical credibility with internal and external customers with project interaction and successful flavor solutions, assisting in prototype formulations, flavor application interactions and flavor creation. As the Junior Flavor Chemist progresses through the program, he or she will be responsible for independently leading customer projects.

This position will ensure timely and accurate support to the R&D Group needs along with providing necessary detailed information to allow for meeting the customer's needs daily. Due to the high volume of requests and FP's customer centric culture this position requires urgency, flexibility, and responsiveness.

The Junior Flavor Chemist will interact with Customers, Applications, Marketing, Sales Account Executives, Research and Innovation, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Product Safety & Quality, Sensory, and Manufacturing, as well as other Business Unit Groups, to achieve FP’s Business Goals.

  • Work with certified flavorist as "flavorist in training" learning all facets of the SFC syllabus for certification. 
  • Formulates flavors for customers under the supervision of Certified Flavorist. 
  • Works with analytical team in understanding and interpreting reports and chromatograms. 
  • Exhibits a clear understanding of solubility, order of addition, reactions, organic chemistry, library of GRAS ingredients, extraction techniques, technologies, mathematics and formulation.

Flavor Chemist at Flavor Producers

The Flavor Chemist is primarily responsible for developing initiatives for flavor business opportunities for Flavor Producers by driving the development, application, and manufacture of flavors in support of Flavor Producers business growth objectives. Expertise in the creation of a broad spectrum of flavors (including but not limited to flavor duplications/matching, new creations and modifications).

This person will play a key role in development of flavor business for Flavor Producers and will support the R&D team. They will need to be fast and able to think on their feet with a keen sense of commercial viability, organization skill and can-do attitude. They will be a key link between supporting existing business and developing future growth.

This position will ensure timely and accurate support to the R&D Group needs along with providing necessary detailed information to allow for meeting the customer's needs daily.   • Project management and processing for FP sales projects
  • Formulating appropriate flavors and revisions
  • Selecting appropriate existing profiles and standardizing formulas for lab compounding
  • Assigning projects to appropriate flavorists, applications techs, isolate engineers or emulsion engineers.
  • Communicating with the sales person concerning feasibility, timing and priority
  • Communicating with R&D personnel concerning feasibility, timing and priority
  •  Ideation of novel and flavor profiles and applications presentations
  • Creation, formulation, revision and matching of finished flavors, flavor keys and flavor ingredients
  • Meeting and working with customers during customer visits and occasional technical sales calls
  • Organoleptic analysis, opinion and direction for production quality control
  • Paneling and sensory evaluation of flavors for matching
  • Sensory evaluation of and direction for new products for possible commercialization
  • Independently work multiple projects of creative development, analysis and matching.
