IFRA North America has named Suzanne Hartigan in a newly created role - director, science policy and regulatory affairs.
Hartigan, an organic chemist by training, joins the fragrance industry after serving seven years in management positions with the Society of Chemical Manufactures and Affiliates (SOCMA). At SOCMA, she was responsible for chemical management issues and new chemical registrations, building strong working relationships with U.S. regulators along the way.
Prior to SOCMA, Hartigan worked as a chemist for Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC). At SRC, she served as a contractor for the Environmental Protection Agency primarily reviewing Pre-manufacture Notifications (PMNs) under EPA’s New Chemicals Program.
She has also taught chemistry at the University of Maryland as an adjunct professor and, early in her career, worked briefly for American Cyanamid (now BASF).
IFRA North America’s advocacy and communications work on behalf of the fragrance industry relies heavily on complex scientific and technical concepts. The organization said bringing technical expertise in-house significantly upgrades its ability to complement the work of RIFM and IFRA in converting such concepts into its advocacy and PR narratives on behalf of the industry in North America.
