Mark Friedman, a scientist with the Monell Center, has received a 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship for his study of diet and obesity. Selected from among more than 2,600 applicants, Friedman's work is described in the Center's announcement:
Friedman's research focuses on how energy metabolism affects eating behavior. Studies in his laboratory have established that liver acts as an energy sensor, detecting and relaying information about the body's fuel metabolism to the brain to control food intake.
