Symrise Highlights 2017 Achievements with Corporate Report

Symrise has released its 2017 corporate report, which provides details about the company’s financials and various sustainability initiatives.  

A Review of 2017

According to the report, the 2017 fiscal year netted €3 billion worth of sales and grew at an organic rate of 6%. Emerging markets brought in roughly 44% of the sales, which was only slightly higher from 2016’s 43%. Per segment, Symrise generated €1,263 million in its scent and care category, equating to a 4% organic growth from the previous year. Additionally, the flavor segment sales rose to €1,102 million, a 9% organic growth rate, and nutrition increased to €631 million with an organic growth rate of 7%.  

In addition to stating sales and revenue growths, the company highlighted some of the major company news from the year, which included

  • Joining the Biodiversity in Good Company initiative in February 2017. The initiative works with various industries to share information about how to protect and sustainably use resources.
  • Logistics center opens at the Port of Hamburg in April 2017. This logistics center will be used for the international sale of its products, along with inbound logistics of its raw materials.
  • Creative and development center opens in Mumbai in June 2017. Symrise opened its second creative and development center in India, which houses a modern development lab for fragrances and cosmetic ingredient.
  • Expanding into Brazil in December 2017. Rounding out the year, Symrise acquired all shares of perfume oils manufacturer Citratus Fragrancias. This move was in an effort to expand into emerging markets and expand its customer base in the region.

Focusing on Sustainability

Symrise also provided updates on several of initiatives and plans. Chief among them was Symrise’s committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change, which aim at cutting global emissions. Supporting the Task Force on climate-related financial disclosures, Symrise began recording greenhouse gas emissions in 2006, with the goal of reducing it by a third by 2020. From 2010-2017, Syrmrise was able to cut its CO2 emissions by 42% and reduce its COD by 56%.

Symrise has also made progress on a number of other initiatives. Some of these include establishing a 24/7 environmental on-call service, promoting a diverse and equal workspace and focusing on biodiversity in the sourcing of natural materials.
