Symrise Gets High Marks for Sustainability From Rating Agency

Symrise AG has been recognized by sustainability rating agency oekom research AG  for its above-average performance and "prime status" in sustainable corporate management, which qualifies the company for a socially responsible investment (SRI).

Oekom research AG analyzes sustainability performance at the world’s 101 largest chemical companies and assigns them a grade according to a twelve-part scale from "A+" (the highest grade) to "D-." With a "B-", Symrise received “prime status” as well as a top grade in the chemical sector. Only four other companies received “prime status.”

The rating agency gave particularly high marks to Symrise’s responsible procurement processes and its efforts to avoid research testing on animals. The implementation of sustainability in corporate processes was also highlighted such as the company's comprehensive and detailed code of conduct as well as sustainable management systems regarding the environment, health and safety throughout the group.

When it came to rating the use of renewable raw materials, Symrise took first place. On the other hand, the rating agency found need for action when it comes to transparency regarding risks arising from climate change. The rating agency also recommended improvements to the company’s information policy with regard to climate change risks and investment security in specific sectors

“We are pleased with oekom research’s positive assessment of our company,"  said Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, Symrise CEO. "It is a clear indication of the advanced integration of sustainability in our business strategy and processes. In the same way, the rating provides us with additional incentive for improving our performance and systematically addressing areas that have been identified as needing further development."
