Sigma-Aldrich Q4 Sales Climb Ahead of Acquisition By Merck

Yet-to-be-acquired Sigma-Aldrich’s fourth-quarter sales rose 3% to $705 million and full-year sales rose 3% to $2.79 billion.

The acquisition of Sigma-Aldrich by Merck KGaA in December 2014 received U.S. antitrust clearance, which satisfies another condition to closing the transaction.

"Looking to the future, we are excited about the opportunity to join forces with Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany,” Rakesh Sachdev, Sigma-Aldrich's president and CEO said. “We continue to expect the transaction to close mid-2015, subject to receipt of certain antitrust and government approvals and other customary closing conditions.”

Sigma-Aldrich’s SAFC commercial business unit, which includes its flavors and fragrances product group, had 14% organic sales growth in the fourth quarter led by double-digit growth of its life science products.
