Sigma-Aldrich Q4 Net Climbs 13%; Sales Growth in All Business Units

Sigma-Aldrich Corp.’s fourth-quarter net income rose 13% to $131 million, with organic sales growth across all of its business units.

Fourth-quarter sales rose 5% to $684 million. Sales for the quarter grew organically by 6% with changes in foreign currency exchange rates reducing sales by 1%. The company’s SAFC Commercial business unit, which includes its flavors and fragrances product group, had $181 million in fourth-quarter sales, representing 26% of overall sales. Organic sales grew 10% for the unit during the quarter and changes in foreign currency exchange rates reduced sales growth by 1%.

The company's full-year net income rose to $491 million from $460 million a year ago as sales rose 3% to $2.7 billion. Organic sales growth was 4% for the year and changes in foreign currency exchange rates reduced sales by 1%.

SAFC forecasts organic sales growth in the low-to-mid single digit range for 2014. By business unit, the company expects organic sales in 2014 to grow in the mid-to-high single digits for SAFC Commercial.
