At the Pernis Petroleum Refinery, Shell has built a new aromatics unit in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The benzene that is developed at the new unit will be shipped to Moerdijk, which is 35 kilometers away. It will then be processed to produce a styrene monomer that is used for manufacturing of packaging food and drink containers.

Lori Ryerkerk, executive vice president for Shell’s global manufacturing business says, “Construction of this new heart cut splitter at Pernis was completed several months ahead of schedule. The investment demonstrates the focus on competitiveness and flexibility at our sites.”
