International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) has been named among Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies.

Over the last year, IFF’s sustainability initiatives and actions have included certifying the industry’s first zero-waste landfill in South Brunswick, New Jersey; targeting food waste as part of WBCSD’s FReSH initiative; setting new sustainability standards with the opening of a fragrances plant in Jiande, China and breaking ground on a flavors and fragrances site focused on sustainable practices in India; and acquiring PowderPure to expand its expertise and offerings for clean labels, among other moves.

Barron’s partnered with Calvert Research and Management to create the list, analyzing the country’s 1,000 largest publicly held companies on 300 key performance indicators. These indicators were then organized into issues—including water use, business ethics, product environmental impact and lifecycle and greenhouse gas emissions—which were subsequently sorted into the stakeholder categories of shareholders, employees, planet, customers and community.

“Having this recognition is fantastic and a wonderful endorsement of the work we do every day in the name of sustainability,” said IFF EVP, chief global scientific and sustainability officer Dr. Gregory Yep. “Our teams work hard to design and create products that they can be proud of.  Every process we use and every molecule, flavor and fragrance we develop is an opportunity to make something better, smarter, and greener.”
