Ginkgo Bioworks and Robertet USA have announced the successful commercial-scale of cultured ingredients.

A growing segment of the flavor and fragrance industry, fermented ingredients must go through several step process in order to be used in products. Ingredients are created by adding designer yeasts during fermentation. After fermentation, the ingredient is then separated from the yeast cells, so they can be used in a wide range of flavor and fragrance products.

Commenting on the partnership, Jason Kelly, co-founder and CEO of Ginkgo Bioworks, said, "It's great to see a project go from conception with a customer, through design of the organism and process development, all the way to a 50,000 liter fermentation. Robertet has been a great partner throughout this process and we look forward to building many more successful products together."
