Callisons has announced that it has partnered with Mars Wrigley Confectionery as founding partners of the Shubh Mint initiative in India.

The goal of the Shubh Mint initiative is to help advance mint plant science, while also supporting local farmers and their communities. The initiative will aim to help 20,000 farmers in the state of Uttar Pradesh to adopt effective agriculture practices. In the first year of the program, 2,600 farmers were trained, with plans to reach another 5,000 in the new year.

“Sustainability of the mint industry is very important in our business; the social and economic sustainability of farmers in their communities along with environmental sustainability are all important factors to us,” said Jeff Johnson, VP of global product management mint at Callisons. “This initiative will improve both the environmental impact of the Indian mint market through the reduction of water use and it will also impact the lives and communities of the farmers in these regions through improved yields, resulting in larger incomes.”
