CPL Aromas Reports Record 2017 Growth

Fragrance house CPL Aromas released its 2016/2017 financial report, which included record sales of £85.0 million, a 19% year over year increase. 

Global Growth 

CPL Aromas reported increased sales among all its key regions. South America produced sales of 17% in local currency, while its Far East market grew by 8%. Despite challenges in the Middle East, CPL Aromas maintained its position due to the presence of its production facilities in the UAE. Additionally, growth in already established European markets were modest but included successes with major clients.

"During the year, we unveiled new corporate branding across the group. This significant investment has been introduced to more accurately represent the goals and ambitions of the company,” said Chris Pickthall, CEO of CPL Aromas. “The new corporate identity brings with it a more stylish and prestigious image, drawing inspiration from our links to the world of fashion which is itself closely linked to the world of fine fragrance. Recent investment in our dedicated fine fragrance unit, together with our new brand identity, have helped deliver new wins with prestigious fine fragrance brands across the world."

Expanding Capabilities

During the fiscal year, CPL Aromas made several capital investments to its business. In India, the company purchased a new premise to create a 10,000-sq. ft. facility in the Lower Parel district of Mumbai, which will feature a creative perfumery center, product performance and evaluation facilities together with a sales and marketing unit. The company also opened a UK R&D facility that includes a dedicated encapsulation research laboratory, in an effort to further develop the company’s Aromacore technology.

"The business continues to invest for the future and the last year has seen the implementation of important new capital projects across the group,” said Pickthall. “Our continued focus on new product development relies on having access to world-class facilities and last year we opened an important global R&D facility adjacent to our Brixworth site in the UK."

A More Sustainable Future

In addition to growing its business and investing, CPL Aromas has continued to make progress on its sustainability initiatives. They have continued its support to CAFOD, a charitable organization that works to transform the lives of people in poverty around the world. The company donated £240,000 to the cause in the 2016/2017 year.

CPL Aromas is also a supporter of The College of Fragrance for the Visually Impaired (COFVI), an organization that helps visually impaired individuals work in the field of fragrance. 

"I am glad that we have been able to work more closely with COFVI during the year helping to train visually impaired students in the technical aspects of perfumery,” said Pickthall. “Scientific research commissioned by CPL Aromas shows that those who are visually impaired have a heightened sense of smell. We are working on programs in India and the UK to establish employment opportunities in the fragrance industry for people who are blind and partially sighted and I am delighted to report that we have been able to persuade some of our competitors to help place some of the graduates of the college into full-time work in our industry."
