Primarily responsible for technical activities associated with development of new and existing flavor lines. Apply flavor development skills, project management skills to create and match new flavors as requested by our customers or to meet the strategies of Prinova Flavor Division. Perform all duties following established laboratory procedures and establish and document new procedures as necessary. Mentor Flavorist-In-Training thru flavorist certification process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Identify, source and maintain a library of raw materials both natural and synthetic to be used in the development of new flavors. Establish and foster relationships with raw material suppliers.

Work in close alliance with Flavor Regulatory Department to include most current required supporting documents for raw materials including: Product Specification, Safety Data Sheet, Allergen Statement, Country of Origin, Kosher Certificate and Statement of Continuing Guarantee, and Nutritional and other documentation as deemed necessary.

Develop liquid and dry flavors to meet the requirements of project requests within a reasonable timeframe that meets the needs of our customer and divisional strategies. Provide direct and ongoing communication with customers and sales representatives regarding project tracking/status and completion timeline.

Work in close alliance with Flavor Analytical Group for duplication efforts.

Conduct all development applying established Prinova product development procedures, establish and document new procedures as necessary. Ensure that Junior Flavorist and Flavor Compounders follow procedures when creating and compounding flavors under Flavorist directions.

Participate in ongoing flavor training and professional organizations to stay current with new developments and trends in the flavor industry. This including routine tastings of aroma raw materials with the flavor group.

Provide technical and sensory training of flavor raw materials to Flavor Applications and Quality staff.

Conduct and participate in sensory panels to determine the level of product duplication or acceptance as a match and that material both raw and finished comply with sensory standards.

Provide technical support and advise production on the commercialization and scale up of new flavors and flavor manufacturing processes.

Other duties as deemed necessary by President or Business Manager or Senior Flavorist.

Supervisory Responsibilities No direct supervisory responsibilities; however mentoring Flavorist-In-Training to qualify for Certified Flavorist status will be important.

As a Flavorist, you will play an integral role in the creation, development and implementation of new cigarette flavor systems (from concept to commercialization) that enable near and mid-term product launches and growth of the flavor platform.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Develop new and modify existing cigarette flavor systems for use in various markets around the world.
  • Understand implications of the flavor design on the entire product and manufacturing system, to deliver innovation with a total system mindset
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to evaluate new raw materials and technologies for flavor creation purposes
  • Ensure cigarette flavors and/or new flavor application systems are transferable from the laboratory to the flavor and cigarette production facilities.
  • Participate in and coordinate sensory evaluation panels, and utilize the data from the panel evaluations to improve/modify cigarette flavor systems.
  • Ensure development of product specifications for the cigarette flavor systems, and sensory quality within those specifications.
  • Collect, review, analyze data and make appropriate modifications to the cigarette flavor systems as required. Provide recommendations to internal customers and cross-functional product development teams.
  • Work with Procurement and Material Qualification teams to ensure the quality of the ingredients and finished flavors.
  • Conduct the flavor creation and development activities in total alignment with the appropriate Regulations, procedures and quality standards.

Requirements:

  • You have a Bachelor or Master degree in Flavor Science, Food Chemistry, Food Technology or related scientific field
  • You have substantial experience in creative flavor design or development in tobacco, food, beverages or related fields, including expert ability to create and adjust flavor formulations
  • You have masterly level knowledge of raw materials, flavor ingredients, solvents and carrier systems
  • You possess a comprehensive knowledge of flavor regulatory status and worldwide acceptability.
  • You demonstrate ability to work on product development projects using Design Control Methodologies and project management skills

As an Engineer you will play an integral role in the management of cigarette flavors by using your specific expertise in chemistry as well as your experience in manufacturing and processing to support PMI factories and affiliates during the full life cycle of products’ flavors. This position involves business-related in-depth technical work coupled with project management, and contributing to interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Produce and review documentation that describes a cigarette flavour system or process, and explain to internal and external parties for manufacturing, legal or compliance purposes
  • Develop product specifications for cigarette flavors, ensuring subjective quality within those specifications, and coordinating verification and validation once systems are transferred the production
  • Collect, review, analyze and summarize data in order to recommend and make appropriate modifications to the cigarette flavors or processing as required
  • Participate and coordinate project’s sensory panels, interpret and utilize the results to make your recommendations and modifications to the cigarette flavor systems or their processing
  • Act as main reference point and interface for vendors, Procurement, Material Qualification, and Flavor Processing Center to ensure the quality and specifications of the ingredients and finished flavors are up to date and accurate, and to promptly and effectively troubleshoot technical issues
  • Ensure cigarettes flavor systems comply to the appropriate regulations, Product Regulatory and Compliance guidelines and quality standards

  • Provide timely and accurate support to manufacturing affiliates ensuring an appropriate usage of the casing and flavor systems

Requirements:

  • You have a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, food science or related scientific field (or equivalent)
