The industry has responded positively to recent efforts by the U.S. Senate to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), which could have significant impacts on the fragrance industry and its clients.

IFRA North America applauds Senators Vitter and Udall for introducing a much-needed update to the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA). The Senators are to be commended for building bipartisan support and creating a process that has been open to all stakeholders.
IFRA North America has actively supported Congressional efforts to revise the rules that regulate chemicals in the United States. The nation needs sensible changes that account for various types of ingredients and their usages. For example, the fragrance industry utilizes an internal TSCA-like program that generates and evaluates data, considers consumer use and exposure and if needed, restricts or bans fragrance materials when scientifically necessary. The bill introduced yesterday represents a significant step forward for regulatory reform and we look forward to sharing our industry’s learnings in a modernized chemicals management system.
As the process continues to move forward, the fragrance industry is committed to building a risk-based regulatory program that ensures ingredients are safe for their intended use, encourages innovation, and ensures that materials production drives the global economy.
