New EWG Study Targets Cleaning Products

Posted: November 6, 2009

More in regulatory news.

As the fragrance industry works to engage NGOs on issues of fragrance safety and ingredient disclosure, a new report posted by the Mother Nature Network attacks a number of conventional cleaners on the premise that "green" cleaners will result in healthy children.

The work, conducted by the Environmental Working Group, analyzed 20 cleaners for materials considered to be air contaminants, those disclosed by the manufacturer, asthmagens and carcinogens. The Group claims to have detected 6 asthmagens, 11 suspected and/or confirmed carcinogens, and 450 that "have never been assessed for safety." The report does not delve into deeper technical issues such as the levels of flagged materials used in the products.
