Symrise (Teterboro, New Jersey) now offers needle-shaped encapsulated flavors, called Evoglass, for tea bags. The line is manufactured via the company’s proprietary encapsulation process, which involves less thermal stress than other processes and no solvents. Evoglass, which has a shelf life of up to four years (two years for citrus flavors), includes standard, sugar-free, and needle-shaped products for a variety of fruit, mint and brown flavors. Available in a uniform particle size of 0.6 mm and 1 mm, these encapsulated flavors are larger than spray-dried flavors, and are water-soluble—particularly important for dry beverage mixes. The brand is dust-free, with low odor, and can be applied with colored and colorless flavors.

Of the flavor line, Donna Rosa, category director, Symrise flavor and nutrition North America, said, “The glass-type matrix of Evoglass allows for the creation of extremely oxygen-stable flavors that deliver excellent flavor intensity.”
