Seven percent of new juice and juice products launched in 2011 included cherries, says Innova Market Insights. That's up from 4% in the five years previous. The group says that as new research props up cherries' super fruit status—showing that they're not only high in antioxidants but may also have anti-inflammatory, painkilling and sleep-aid properties—sales are increasing.
While cherries have traditionally been used in blended juices, pure cherry juice products are gaining traction in high-end platforms. With 16% of new cherry juice products launching in the U.S. and a whopping 50% in Europe, look for this to become a global trend.
