Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) has circulated a press statement by the Corn Refiners Association, refuting claims of a recent Environmental Health article on a study asserting mercury contamination of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). As per the statement, Audrae Erickson, president of Corn Refiners Association, confirms that “the study appears to be based on outdated information of dubious significance.”
To provide further information on the issue, FEMA has offered a Science Policy Paper by Dr. Bob Brackett that examines the role of carbohydrates, including sugars, in diet and health and misperceptions about high-fructose corn syrup. The association is looking forward to hear from its members, who have received customer enquiries about HFCS.
