FDA Proposes Rule to Extend its Authority over E-cigarettes

Posted: April 24, 2014

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed a new rule that would extend the agency’s tobacco authority to cover additional tobacco products—including e-cigarettes.

The proposed rule, which includes requiring ingredient listings of e-cigarettes to be registered with the FDA, will be available for public comment for 75 days.

Electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, are battery-operated devices that generally contain cartridges filled with nicotine, flavor and other chemicals (read more about the e-cigarettes flavor market in P&F's March 2013 issue).
