EFSA Deems Five Carboxamides in Flavoring Group Non-genotoxic

The Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids of the European Food Safety Authority evaluated five carboxamide flavoring substances in the flavoring group evaluation 304. Of the substances evaluated, none of the substances were considered to be genotoxic.

N-pbenzeneacetonitrile-menthanecarboxamide [FL-no: 16.117], (1R,2S,5R)-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-methyl-2-(1- methylethyl)cyclohexanecarboxamide [FL-no: 16.123] and (2S,5R)-N-[4-(2-amino-2-oxoethyl)phenyl]- 5-methyl-2-(propan-2-yl)cyclohexanecarboxamide [FL-no: 16.125] do not have safety concerns at their levels of dietary intake based on the MSDI approach.

For the remaining two substances, N-(2-(pyridine-2-yl)ethyl)-3-pmenthanecarboxamide [FL-no: 16.118] and (1R,2S,5R)-N-cyclopropyl-5-methyl-2- isopropyl cyclohexanecarboxamide [FL-no: 16.124],  no appropriate NOAEL (no observed adverse effect level) was available and additional data are required.

None of the candidate substances have been reported to occur naturally.
