Lemon Verbena Oil In earlier reports on lemon verbena the taxonomic origin used was Aloysia trphylla (L’Her.) Britton [syn. Lippia citriodora Ortega ex Pers. Humb. Bonpl. et Kunth.; L. triphylla (L’Her.) Kuntze; Verbena triphylla L’Her.]; however, the most acceptable name is Aloysia citriodora Palau.
Frazao et al. (1982) reported that a sample of lemon verbena oil produced from plants of Portuguese origin was found to contain the following constituents:

beta;-pinene (0.15%)
sabinene (2.33%)
limonene (22.72%)
1,8-cineole (1.31%)
6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one (0.22%)
alpha;-copaene (0.98%)
linalool (0.39%)
beta;-caryophyllene (1.15%)
neral (6.69%)
geranial (10.77%)
alpha;-terpineol (0.20%)
geranyl acetate (9.26%)
nerol (0.37%)
geraniol (0.77%)
nerolidol* (1.42%)
spathulenol (8.85%)
