Lansdowne Chemicals has introduced sucralose (FEMA# 3038, CAS# 56038-13-2), which is 600 times sweeter than sugar. The material can be used in place of or combined with sugar in a variety of food and drinks.

The raw product is odorless and is a solid white powder at room temperature, similar to sugar itself. This sweetener is created using a multi-step process that starts with sugar and selectively replaces three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms. The result is an exceptionally stable sweetener that tastes like sugar, but without the calories.

Sugar Substitution

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has proposed new label amendments that include the percent daily value (%DV) for added sugars in packaged foods.

Whether natural or artificial, sugar substitutes are the fasted growing segment in the sweetener market. Global Trends forecasts the global sugar substitute market to reach USD $13.76 billion by 2018.
