Protecting perfume creations is at the heart of a successful brand or business. However, consumers are increasingly pushing for transparency, and with technology, details on intellectual property are more frequently being leaked and copied. So what can the industry do?

At the World Perfumery Congress 2018, one Petit WPC session will examine this issue in detail. Charles Cronin, lawyer at the University of Southern California, and Claire Guillemin, Ph.D., lawyer at Bucerius Law School, will present “Rethinking Intellectual Fragrance Property,” on June 5, 2018, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.

During the presentation, the speakers will discuss among a panel of fragrance professionals about the increasingly complicated intellectual fragrance property space. The presenters will discuss potential technologies of ambient scenting, commercial implications for the fragrance industry and how to protect intellectual property.

Additionally, attendees of the session will:

  • Acquire an understanding of various forms of intellectual property protection, and their limitation ins the fragrance industry.
  • Learn practical means to establish claims for fragrance service mark protection, and by which to assert legal protection through.
