NAFFS Technical Meeting: Nutrition as a Lifestyle or Health Change

The National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems (NAFFS), in conjunction with Rutgers University Department of Food Science, will hold a technical seminar from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Mon., April 15, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.

Registration and refreshments are offered at 9 a.m. The technical program follows at 9:30 a.m. and features the following presentations: Beata Smoron of PepsiCo Worldwide Flavors will present “Our Survival Through Sustainable Supply – the Consumer Products Company Perspective.” This presentation will review the sourcing of sustainable flavor and aroma materials and emphasize the critical role all members of the supply chain play in assuring consistent, ethnical and quality supply of materials.

Steven Dimler of Abbott Nutrition will cover “The Role of Proteins in Nutritional Products.” Attendees will gain a better understanding of different protein types and blends that offer opportunities to the product developer in the creation of shelf stable, good tasting beverages.

Dr. Michael Rogers of Rutgers University will present “Applications of Nanotechnology in Flavor Chemistry.” This presentation will discuss the major advantages as well as pitfalls in food nanotechnology.

Diane Sanfilippo, New York Times best-selling author, will discuss “The Paleo Approach to Nutrition.” This certified nutrition consultant will share her passion for nutrition, health and fitness and talk about lifestyle changes to embrace for healthier living.

Swetha Mahadevan of Rutgers University will present “New Application of High Pressure Processing to Make Nutrient-Enhanced Foods.”

The program concludes with a networking lunch. An optional tour of the Rutgers University Food Science Department will begin at 2 p.m.

Meeting registration is $85 for members of NAFFS ($109 for non-members) which includes the seminar, speaker handouts, a networking breakfast, break, networking lunch and tour.
