SFC Midwest Meeting This Week

The Society of Flavor Chemists (SFC) will hold its Midwest Meeting this Thursday, April 19, at the Cincinnati Airport Marriott, Hebron, KY. Included in the day's agenda, is a Chemical Sources Association (CSA) technical meeting featuring presentations by Fontarome, Oxford and Moore Ingredients. The SFC board of directors meeting and committee chairpersons meeting will be held in the morning from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The educational program will be held from 3:30–4:50 pm with presentations by Bruce Chassy (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign) and Dolf De Rovira (Flavor Dynamics, Inc.). Chassy will talk about transgenic crops in agriculture, reasons for opposition to GMOs and the future of the technology. De Rovira will lead a hands-on sensory exploration of four varietal wines. After the cocktail hour and dinner, Julian Herszage (UC Davis) will explore the effects that different factors have on wine flavor and aroma, as well as the analytical and sensory tools and techniques currently available to the flavor chemist in the wine industry and research laboratories.
