Annette Green Fragrance Museum Opens

In the Fall of 2006, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) Museum & Galleries opened The Annette Green Perfume Museum, a permanent installation open year round. At the end of the 20th century, Annette Green, now president emeritus of The Fragrance Foundation, developed and opened America’s first and only museum dedicated to fragrance as well as the olfactory arts and sciences. In 2004, the collection was donated to the FIDM Museum & Galleries in Los Angeles.

The museum’s collection, devoted to the artistry and understanding of the historical cultural roles of fragrance, includes over 1,000 vintage and contemporary bottles and boxes from more than 165 international fragrance houses, perfumers and private collectors beginning in the 18th century. Other objects in the collection are two 18th century Adams Cabinets (a gift of Elizabeth Arden), an Erté sculpture called Perfume (a gift of Givaudan), four rare historic fragrance-themed posters (gifts of Firmenich and Dragoco [now Symrise]) as well as ephemera. The three-pronged purpose of the Annette Green Perfume Museum at FIDM, includes outreach and inspirational programs for the fragrance industry, the public and academia.
